The McMaster University Faculty Association (MUFA) is a professional association that represents the interests of all faculty members and senior academic librarians of McMaster University and is responsible for collective bargaining with the Administration. Professor, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers with a Contractually Limited Appointment as well as Senior Academic Librarians are members of MUFA.

Teaching assistants are responsible for leading class discussions, supervising a lab group, marking assignments, meeting and corresponding with students or facilitating help sessions. Teaching assistants are represented by The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3906, Unit 1.

Post Doctoral Fellows (CUPE, Local 3906, Unit 3)

Post-doctoral fellows are employees that have been awarded a PhD or equivalent. The appointment involves substantial research or scholarship, and may also involve some teaching. Post-doctoral Fellows, excluding those in the Faculty of Health Sciences, are represented by The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Local 3906, Unit 3.

Temporary, casual and/or interim staff perform a variety of functions across campus. They are employed in a position with a duration of less than 6 months or having no specified schedule for a definite or indefinite duration.
