DeGroote School of Business

Preparing for your start at DeGroote

Welcome to the DeGroote School of Business—we’re excited to have you join us! Before your first day, your supervisor will reach out with a work entry plan and key information to help you get started. This page includes everything you need to prepare, from activating your MacID and understanding your pay, to setting up parking and learning about orientation.

If you have any questions along the way, our DeGroote Human Resources team is here to support you.

Your checklist

After DSB HR receives your signed offer letter, your manager will reach out to confirm the logistics for your first day.

Additionally, you’ll receive an invitation to a welcome and orientation meeting within your first few days. This meeting will introduce you to valuable resources and benefits available as part of McMaster University, as well as guide you through payroll and benefits enrollment.

Your MacID serves as your personal identifier, granting access to various McMaster systems and applications, such as email, Mosaic, and more. You will receive instructions from Human Resources on how to activate your MacID before your start date (refer to the recommended resources for additional details). Once your official start date arrives, you’ll need to activate your email account. If you haven’t received the necessary activation details, please contact dsbhr@mcmaster.ca.

Activate MacID

Please note: If you have previously been a McMaster student or employee, your MacID and email address may have been automatically generated based on your former status, which may not reflect your current last name. In this case, please inform your HR Representative in advance so we can coordinate with our Computer Services Unit to update your information accordingly.

McMaster offers a variety of sustainable transportation options to help you get around campus. The interactive parking map allows you to view available parking lots, as well as shuttle bus stops and routes.

Parking services

To apply for monthly parking, select from the available lots or waitlists in the online portal. Once your spot is assigned, you will be asked to visit McMaster Parking and Security Services in Room T32 to pick up your transponder. Additional details about monthly parking can be found below:

McMaster’s New Employee Orientation Program (NEO) is an informative and highly interactive one day session that provides new employees with an engaging day of learning about the University.  NEO also provides a great opportunity to network with colleagues across the organization and explore the central campus environment.  Sessions are run throughout the year.  Please visit Working at McMaster’s New Employee Orientation to register for the next available session.

Please note, you may also have the opportunity to attend additional orientation, depending on your employee type.  Please talk to your supervisor or DSB HR Representative for more information.
