DeGroote School of Business

Your first months

The DeGroote School of Business is dedicated to supporting your professional growth and career advancement. This page outlines the development opportunities available to all faculty and staff members.
We encourage you to connect with colleagues across departments to build meaningful professional relationships. Additionally, we recommend scheduling regular discussions with your supervisor to review your goals, establish priorities, and plan for your future development within the organization.

Maintain regular communication with your supervisor to address questions, discuss concerns, and establish annual goals through the performance review process.

The performance management cycle follows this annual schedule:

  • Annual planning and goal setting (July to September)
  • Ongoing coaching conversations (October to May)
  • Year end performance review (June)

If you have further questions about McMaster’s evaluation processes, standards, and resources for each phase, please consult the Performance Management for TMG guidelines.

In case of an on-campus emergency at the DeGroote School of Business, call McMaster Security Services immediately:

  • From a university phone by dialing ext. 88
  • Using McMaster University’s Safety App.
  • By pressing the button on a Red Assistance Phone around campus. Find their locations here.
  • If you are outside of campus, dial 905-522-4135

In the case of an emergency lockdown, the campus siren system will activate. As sirens are only audible outdoors, Security Services recommends installing the Alertus App for emergency notifications.

If you have any more questions about McMaster’s emergency procedures, please refer to the Security Services Emergency Guidebook.

At the DeGroote School of Business, we are dedicated to cultivating and sustaining mature, constructive relationships with all our employees and their respective bargaining agents.

To ensure a smooth transition, it’s important to understand employee agreements, which are formal documents outlining the terms and conditions of your employment. These agreements clarify expectations regarding your role, responsibilities, compensation, and benefits, whether you are covered by an individual contract or a collective agreement negotiated with a union or association.
